About Us

The Invermere Valley Echo began in 1956, in a corner of founding editor Winnifred Weir's kitchen. She was able to type the editorial with one hand, while stirring soup with the other.

Today, from its offices in Invermere, the Valley Echo reaches more than 3,200 homes and businesses throughout the Windermere Valley, including the communities of Invermere, Windermere, Wilmer, Fairmont Hot Springs and Radium Hot Springs.

The Echo is the enduring survivor of a colourful history of newspapers that served the area, beginning in 1900 with the Canterbury Outcrop.

The Echo joined Black Press in 2003.
