Canal Flats council ends year on a celebratory note

A full council met to discuss recent items on the agenda that were deferred from last week’s meeting.

A fun, festive and impromptu style wine-and-cheese council meeting was held in Canal Flats at the Columbia Discovery Centre on Monday, December 15th. A full council met to discuss recent items on the agenda that were deferred from last week’s meeting, due to absent council members.

“We decided to call a full council meeting, so we could have everybody else on the same page,” said Mayor Ute Juras.

Council elected Juras as the newly appointed representative to serve on the Ktunaxa Kinbasket Treaty Advisory Committee, along with Councillor Karl Sterzer as her alternate.

Important dates were discussed and successfully decided upon for the new year. The 2015 Budget Meeting was set for January 24th and the 2015 Strategy Plan meeting was set for January 31st.

Finally, council commenced with the Municipal Finance Authority Signing, which states that all council members have signing authority for any and all documents pertaining to municipal finance, within council jurisdiction. Upon finalizing official business, council followed up with some old fashioned celebrating and good conversation.

“We had a little bit of a wine and cheese at the council and we had some people show up, which was nice and we got a chance to chat, so it was great,” said Juras.
