Sweet 16 for Rotary Fundraiser

Loop the Lake is back once again to kick off the month of August with some great exercise and family fun.

Loop the Lake is back once again to kick off the month of August with some great exercise and family fun.

The community race event is a Rotary Club of Invermere fundraiser, and takes place on August 6.

“We’re following a similar format to last year,” said event chair Yvonne Redeker. “We’ve made some half-marathon changes, and have retired the ultra marathon. This worked well, especially with the half-marathon course, so we’re following that format again.”

Registration can be done online, or during an all-day registration event at the Best Western Invermere Inn on August 5, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Those interested can stop by and register for the races the next day.

Last-minute walk-ins are also allowed between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. at the Windermere Community Hall for the 10 km race.

The 10 km race has a fee of $40 until August 1. Registration after August 1 will cost $45. The fee includes a souvenir t-shirt.

Entry forms will be accepted up until 5 p.m. on August 4 at Summit Footwear and Apparel. Registration can then be done at the Best Western on August 5 for those who missed the previous deadline.

The 10 km race will begin at 8 a.m. at the Windermere Community Hall.

The course will take runners winding around scenic roads around the lake, in the Lakeview area. The finish line will be at Pynelogs Cultural Centre in Invermere.

Comfort stations will be located at regular intervals throughout the entire course, with water, replacement drinks, toilet facilities and limited first aid.

Emergency first aid arrangements will also be in effect.

After a morning on the run, a pancake breakfast awaits racers at the finish line. Non-participants are welcome to stop by for some food for $5.

Awards will be announced at 10:30 a.m., and transportation back to vehicles parked in Windermere will also be available.

The half-marathon begins at 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Hwy 93/95 and Windermere Loop Road. Buses are available from Rotary Ball Park, departing at 6:30 a.m. The last bus opportunity leaves at 7 a.m., so those looking to warm up before the start of the marathon who are taking the bus are urged to catch the 6:30 a.m. bus.

The course will run participants up and down Windermere Loop Road, crossing Hwy 95 at one point before marrying runners to the 10 km race course at the Windermere Community Hall, finishing at Pynelogs Cultural Centre.

Water and aid stations will also be available on this run. The fee is $50 and also includes a t-shirt.

The early registration deadline is July 31, with the fee being $55 after that date. Registration forms are accepted at Summit Footwear and Apparel until 5 p.m. on August 4.

Last-minute racers who do not register on the August 5 all-day event at the Best Western can register at 6 a.m. at the Rotary Ball Park.
