Proposed water upgrade voted down

Eligible electors in the community of Windermere have voted against a proposed upgrade to the Windermere Community Water System.

Eligible electors in the community of Windermere have voted against a proposed upgrade to the Windermere Community Water System that would have provided the community with treated drinking water through the purchase of bulk treated water from Parr Utilities Ltd (also known as Windermere Water and Sewer Company).

“We presented an option to provide treated water that meets Interior Health’s treatment objectives. The community has made a clear decision that this is not an option they support,” says Area F director Wendy Booth. “I am pleased with the voter turn out as it shows the community was engaged in the process and I respect their decision.”

A total of 244 valid ballots were cast in Saturday’s referendum, which works out to roughly a 54 per cent voter turn out. The preliminary results are 203 no and 41 yes. The results were expected to be officially declared Monday afternoon.
