Fairmont Hot Springs will be the scene of the second annual Fire and Ice Festival between January 28-30.

During the weekend there will be numerous events all over Fairmont to entertain and provide great times for participants and those people watching.

Jocelyn MacGregor of BC Rockies Adventures is one of the people who are helping organize the weekend.

“Fairmont Hot Springs is a tight-knit community that loves the outdoors. What could be more fun than getting together and enjoying the splendour? Members of the Fairmont Business Association have been working hard for months to pull together an event that is ideal for our community members. In essence, we have a weekend event that offers an ideal location, great people, and exciting activities for all ages,” MacGregor said.

The weekend of fun kicks off on January 28 with a free barbeque and music at the Mountainside Market from noon to 3 p.m.

Fairmont Hot Springs family ski area will be having a specially priced evening ski event from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. followed by live music at the ski lodge from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On January 29 events will kick off at 9 a.m. with a Play Day in Columere Park. The park will be full of activities all day with a snow bocce tournament that will give teams the chance to take on other local teams while playing through hilarious elements and obstacles.

Team should sign up by January 22 at BC Rockies Adventures at 250-345-6049 or fairmontlife.org. There will also be a chance to see who has the best lumberjack outfit at a contest which is the perfect occasion to bring out the flannel. Also in the park will be a barbecue, music, shinny broomball and great food.

This year’s Fire and Ice Gala dinner is going to be a hoot where guests will be able to wear their best “Classy Country” outfit (think country music star). The sit-down meal will consist of a succulent four-course meal, paired with wine and locally brewed beer.

After dinner you will be able to dance the night away during an old-fashioned barn dance. Tickets for the evening are $70 per person (includes tax, gratuity, and paired beverages) and will be hosted by the Hoodoo Grill.

Interested parties can call 250-345-2166 for information and tickets.

The Fairmont Business Association will also be hosting a silent auction at the dinner.

January 30 will see the last day of the weekend and guests will be able to get out for a hearty and free pancake breakfast between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. at Smoking Water Café.

“We have made a big effort to offer a weekend to remember for every community member. The local community is made up of people from all walks of life and from every age group. This is a celebration for all of us and for the amazing place that we each love dearly and call home. This event is also open to our neighbours in Invermere, Canal Flats, and Radium, and to local visitors,” MacGregor said.

She went on to say, “Winter is a great season for outdoor fun and during this weekend event we are offering three days of winter excitement. On Friday a barbecue and evening entertainment at the local ski hill. Saturday offers a thrilling snow bocce tournament and tons of activities for kids and adults.Saturday evening has a themed Classy-Country gala dinner and Sunday delivers a delicious pancake breakfast.”
