Canada Day in Columbia Valley

Invermere‘s annual Canada Day celebrations start in the wee hours of July 1, when the Kinsmen Club of Windermere Valley ignite their much anticipated fireworks display. At 12:01 a.m. the sky over Lake Windermere will be lit with a brilliant pyrotechnic show, with the best viewing spots being on the lake or near the Eddie Mountain Memorial Arena. Once again CVArts Council is hosting the festivities of Canada Day and the Mountain Mosaic Festival, with assistance from the Invermere Business Association (IBC). The party will kick off at 11:15 a.m. with a parade through downtown Invermere, heading down to Kinsmen Beach. Once at Kinsmen Beach, everyone is invited to share in the singing of our national anthem. “We’re going to try and recreate last year’s events,” said IBC chair Paul Christy, noting that partnering with the CVArts was a great success. The afternoon at Kinsmen Beach will feature vendors, live entertainment, clowns and plenty of free activities. At Pynelogs Cultural Centre, adjacent to Kinsmen Beach, a variety of kid and family oriented activities and performers will be on hand to captivate and mesmerize everyone. Over 4,000 people took part in last year’s celebrations, and Christy hopes that the 2009 Canada Day and Mountain Mosaic festivities will be another success. “It was a fantastic turnout and we’re hoping to do that again,” he recalled.
