Robert "Tansley" Amiss

AMISS, Robert “Tansley” James

July 9, 1935 – December 21, 2010

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dearest Papa. Robert “Tansley” James Amiss, known affectionately as Papa, Tan, R.T., Arty, “Tan the Man” and just plain Dad, lost his battle for life surrounded by the love of his family and friends. To say he fought hard to stay with us would be an understatement. Loved by all that had the good fortune to know him, he made everyone feel like his best friend…from the guy or gal who pumped his gas or served him coffee to his lifelong buddies. We will so miss his fabricated stories of skiing the Matterhorn or climbing Mount Everest…. dear Papa, the world will be a less funny place without your sense of humour and quick wit. He will forever be loved and honoured by his wife and life partner Darlene Levant and his daughters Tracy Amiss, Corinne (Brent) O’Dell and Donna (Mark) Shalom. Papa will be deeply missed by his grandchildren Blake and Bailey and his furry grandogger Stryder. Also left in sadness by his passing are his sister Karen (Howie) Jaquish and brother Will (Marion) Amiss. He will be greatly missed by his many other friends and family too numerous to mention but to honour a few special ones …Don & Barb, Patti, Dave, Gary and Jack, there are many others…you know who you are. Tan was part of a family of three boys and one girl. He was born in Lloydminster, Sask on July 9, 1935. He had a very creative side and started his career at Sears in Saskatoon in window display and continued along that creative path after moving to Calgary until his retirement. He had a very eclectic decorating style and it was not a surprise if we came home to find he had redecorated the basement complete with an R.T. original mannequin leg art piece hanging on the wall. Tan was predeceased by his parents Bill and Louise Amiss and his brother Barry Amiss. Tan was an avid golfer and spent many of his past summers enjoying all the Columbia Valley had to offer at the family cabin in Columere Park, B.C. He made many great friends there and spent a great deal of time golfing, puttering and just generally enjoying the outdoors and being with friends and family. Tan’s wishes were to be cremated and rest for all eternity in the valley that he loved so much. By his request there will be no formal funeral services but a wake to honour our most beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend will be held in the new year (January 8) for family and close friends, details to be forwarded by email. Thanks to everyone for their love and kindness during this difficult time in our lives and special thanks for the gentle and loving care administered to Papa and to us at the Rockyview General Hospital.
