Whiteway needs more than ‘cheap shot’

Re: Ottawa and Winnipeg offer beaver tails, ice advice to Invermere, January 18

As one of the groundbreakers for the Whiteway I am very disappointed that Mayor Taft should choose to insult other Canadian cities.

I looked through the initial proposal that we made to Mayor Taft and council years ago.

We referenced Winnipeg, Ottawa and European cities as examples of success. We asked for sanitary facilities, waste management facilities and rest stations that offered a seat and sign panels describing some of the unique cultural and environmental features one sees on the Whiteway.

We didn’t get those from Mayor Taft, instead we get cheap shot publicity years later.

If you want people to come to the Whiteway, make it a memorable and enjoyable experience with the proper infrastructure. Otherwise you might as well be taping plastic fruit to Invermere trees and sending photos around the world.
