Few chances for Rockies in Fernie

The Columbia Valley Rockies were on the losing end of a 7-1 loss to the Ghostriders on Friday, January 27 in Fernie.

In what was an ugly game for the away side, the Columbia Valley Rockies were on the losing end of a 7-1 loss to the Ghostriders on Friday, January 27 in Fernie.

The division-leading Ghostriders really flexed their muscles in this one, putting up 58 shots to a season-low eight shots for the Rockies. Fernie forward Connor McLaughlin led all scorers with two goals and three points in what was a balanced attack for the Ghostriders, who had 12 different players record points on the night.

Josh Haley scored the lone goal for the Rockies, an unassisted tally 41 seconds into the game. However, that was one of only two shots on goal for the Rockies in the first period.

Recently-acquired goaltender Scott Legault had a strong game in net for the Rockies, making 51 saves, but the Rockies still fell to 3-40-0-1 for the season with just eight games remaining.

Next, the Rockies host the Creston Valley Thunder Cats on Friday February 3, before visiting Creston the next night in the second half of a home-and-home.

Creston is one of three teams the Rockies have beaten this season, having vanquished the Thunder Cats on December 6 in a double overtime thriller. Five of the Rockies’ final eight games will be played on home ice in Invermere.
