Softball season a smashing success

The local softball season wraps up for another year.

The winners of the Adult Slo Pitch Co-Ed Teams for 2014 Summer season are as follows:

Tuesday night winners are the KDC (Kootenay Development Corporation) Team Captain: Courtney Bone.

Thursday Night Winners are Ballz Out. Team Captain: Kayla Ferguson. Coached by Lawrence Godlien.

A special thanks goes out to Phil and Cy for all the great work keeping the ball fields in tip-top shape. Our ball fields are better to play on every year, and we thank you.

We would like to thank Lindsay Johnston and Fraser Young for holding the Ballfest Ball Tournament in July. See facebook.com/invermereballfest for more details.

We would like to thank the Lions’ Club for providing us with the opportunity to relax and enjoy a little recreation and social time by providing us with the ball fields each summer.

And we would not be where we are today without the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK), Chris Bosman and Kevin Patterson to oversee our ball fields at the Invermere Crossroads.

The RDEK has been collecting our user fees for several years now and putting the money back into our fields, and the improvements are evident to our local teams as well as in comments from the teams playing in the Ballfest Tournament. We are seeing improvements with high netting to protect parking and vehicles, new dugouts and players’ benches, new bleachers for fans to enjoy the games, and a safety feature of protective poly-cap cushion around the outfield fencing.

We would like to thank Cheryl Williams and Copper Point Resort for providing a meeting place for our AGM, much appreciated!

Our softball league has many helpers throughout the season, and many people are responsible for managing the entire league. With the help of Scott Postlethwaite taking care of the scheduling on Tuesday nights, Jessica Fairhart and Lindzee Rouleau taking care of the scheduling on Thursday nights, and Jim Detta managing the finances, it is a volunteer team effort that becomes easier with each new summer season.
