DOI closing in on resort town status

Invermere is one step closer to officially becoming a provincially designated resort town.

INVERMERE — It appears Invermere is one step closer to officially becoming a provincially designated resort town. At District of Invermere council on November 8, council discussed the ongoing proposal, which was made in January of 2011. After several revisions, district CAO Chris Prosser reported that the province was satisfied with the application.

If approved, Invermere would begin to see funds in January, which would be a flat grant in the range of $180,000. Prosser estimates it’s 85 per cent likely the province will approve the application. Council also discussed meeting with both Radium and Fairmont, as mayor Gerry Taft said there would be great value in combining resources.
